Creating a meaningful clothing collection

PROCESS:

The groundwork for this collection began in July 2024, sparked by an extended conversation with a Japanese textile producer whose approach to fabric aligned intuitively with our own. From the outset, our intention was clear: to create garments that are warm and comforting to wear, yet defined by a sense of structural clarity. We weren’t interested in softness alone - we wanted a silhouette that carried presence. For us, that tension between comfort and precision remains central to this collection.

Over the following months, we collaborated closely with a number of knitwear specialists across different regions. The process was slow and detailed, shaped by many rounds of sampling. We examined minute shifts in yarn weight, tested variations in necklines, armhole height, and shoulder construction, and adjusted our finishing methods until every piece felt effortless yet intentional. Every decision, even the invisible ones, was made with care.

Silhouette continues to be a language we return to again and again, particularly as we explore what the ZOBO identity is becoming. For this collection, we selected fabrics with a natural weight and movement, allowing the garments to sit firmly at the shoulder before relaxing downward. This decision was less about traditional tailoring and more about how clothing settles on the body in lived-in, almost unconscious ways. Our goal was to create pieces that feel “on” without requiring effort - cosy but composed, un-styled but precise.

This collection offers our clearest expression yet of the Archives of Zobo ethos: the interplay of refinement and rawness, or what we’ve come to describe internally as gritty grandeur. You’ll see that in details like the hand-stitched logo and hammered buttons on the cropped cardigan (slightly uneven and all the better for it) set against polished lines and considered proportions. Or in the texture of the alpaca fibres, lightly hand-brushed to retain their loft, set within silhouettes that are striking yet stripped back.

Importantly, our work this season extended beyond the garments themselves. Logistics and customer experience have always been part of our broader design process, and we’ve made deliberate improvements here too. We’ve maintained complimentary international shipping for orders over $150, with taxes, duties, and tariffs all included in the price to avoid hidden costs. Our packaging has also evolved: each garment now arrives in an organic cotton dust-bag, and Australian orders are shipped using recycled paper materials.

As always, the intention behind each piece goes beyond aesthetics. It’s about how it feels to put something on, and what that feeling might quietly say.

COCOON ETHOS:

VOL. 4 is a collection born from the tension between tenderness and resilience. These are pieces that comfort, shield, and soften — textiles that feel like a refuge, silhouettes that hold like quiet armour. Cocoon is for the moments when comfort becomes a form of strength, and your silhouette is the boldest statement. Each piece wraps the body in warmth, yet holds its own with quiet intention. Cocoon captures the duality at the heart of Zobo: tender in feel, strong in form.
